Fry light is a commonly used spray which will almost certainly be found in the cupboard of anyone who has been part of slimming world, weight watchers or attempted any other popular weight loss diet.
When it comes to cooking food, dieters will be instructed to ensure that any food that they cook must be cooked in a low-calorie spray such as fry light in order to cut down their calories and maximise their weight loss. However, for an effective weight loss programme, I have only given it a 1-star rating.
One of the first things I tell my weight loss clients when I see their bottles of fry light is to either throw them in the bin or rummage around their house to find the receipt and ask for their money back.
The main reason for this is that when cooking with a low-calorie spray such as fry light, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to include quite possible the best fat-burning food item that is provided to us via the diet...
Below is a selection of reasons why you should ditch the fry light and include olive oil to get the best out of your weight loss programme and improve your overall health and wellbeing...
1. Olive Oil is 100% fat
One of the main reasons why most weight loss programmes don't get long-term success is because they are centred around the low-fat, low-calorie principal.
However, when we lower the amount of fat in the diet we also decrease our body's ability to burn fat.
The body works by burning whatever food you give it. So look at it as when I eat food, it is an instruction to the body telling it what I want to use as a fuel. So if I give the body a high amount of carbohydrates, I am instructing the body to use carbohydrates as its fuel. However, if I give the body a high amount of fat then I am telling the body that I want it to use fat as a fuel.
When we increase the amount of fat in the diet our body's ability to burn fat can increase by up to 200%.

2. Olive Oil is high in Heart Health Boosting Monounsaturated Fat and Antioxidants.
73% of the fat in olive oil is the monounsaturated fat oleic acid. Fry-light contains 0% monounsaturated fat.
One of the main benefits of including more monounsaturated fat in the diet is the effect that monounsaturated fat has on inflammation.
Eating more monounsaturated fat significantly lowers the amount of inflammation in the body. Also, olive oil includes high amounts of antioxidants which also decrease inflammation.
Inflammation in the body plays a role in the onset of life-threatening diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes and many more.
3. Olive Oil helps normalise cholesterol.
Increasing the amount of fat in your diet, especially monounsaturated fats can help normalise cholesterol levels.
Specifically, levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) significantly decrease in response to an increase in dietary fat.
Also, levels of HDL (good cholesterol) increase. When the ratio of HDL : LDL cholesterol increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases is significantly decreased.
Also, HDL cholesterol acts as a scavenger and mops up any lost LDL cholesterol that could potentially lead to atherosclerosis (clogged arteries).
3. It's only 40kcal!
On any popular weight loss programme, frying food is a big no-no. This is mainly because of the fear of including "high calorie" fats in your meal.
However, per serving of olive used to fry your food, there are only 40 calories! Now you can't say that 40kcal is a lot...
Is it really worth, missing out on this amazing weight loss tool over 40kcal...?
